The Prerequisites That Stop Enrollment
Accreditation before enrollment
Medicare requires accreditation from an approved body before a DME supplier can enroll. It cannot be run in parallel — the accreditation is a document the enrollment needs.
The surety bond
A surety bond per location is required for most supplier types. Missing or lapsed, it stops enrollment and can deactivate an existing one.
Supplier standards at the site
The standards cover hours, signage, records, complaint handling and inventory. They are verified at the location, and a site visit finding a shortfall ends the application.
Wrong product categories
Enrolled for categories that do not cover what is actually supplied. The enrollment looks active and the claims deny, and correcting it means a change of information filing.
Revalidation on a shorter cycle
Suppliers revalidate more often than physicians. Missing it deactivates billing privileges, and reinstatement requires the accreditation and bond to still be in order.
